The school year in Kenya runs from January to December. Victory Junior Academy will welcome back 75 students in January 2012.
School uniforms are mandatory for school children in Kenya but most families in Mathare Valley cannot afford school fees, supplies or uniforms. The children who do have uniforms have been wearing the same ones for 2 years or longer and some children have never had a new pair of shoes.
By providing uniforms we are making education accessible for children. For most children in Mathare, the opportunity for an education of any kind is quite challenging. Without government funding for schools in the area, the reality is that there are very few schools available and most children are left to go out in search of food and/or to beg for money. From these desperate conditions, many of these children are molested, get caught up in drug and alcohol abuse, become involved in crime, etc.
Victory Junior Academy is free to the children of Mathare Valley. Through the generous support of donors like you, there is ZERO cost to the student, parent(s), or guardian. $25 provides a child Meals, Education, Supplies, and Safety for one month. If you would like to make a donation to cover these additional fees visit our Donate page.
